Ed Sheeran opened his Philadelphia concert by addressing the withdrawal of supporting acts following the removal of Benjamin Haggerty (known professionally as Macklemore) for pro-Palestinian remarks. Sheeran described the situation in Gaza as “catastrophic and unjustifiable,” attributing his comments to on-stage statements reported by Reuters and the Associated Press. The controversy, involving statements by Macklemore and subsequent artist withdrawals, has drawn varied reactions from fans and resulted in pledges of donations to Palestinian relief efforts. Israeli and Palestinian officials, as well as independent conflict analysts, have offered differing perspectives on the events, and some claims could not be independently verified as of press time.
